Poetry

Poetry, to me, can be plethora of different things. When I think of poetry I think of rhyme schemes and big words. It can be written by anyone, and can be critiqued by anyone. Poetry is a personalized play on words to express their thoughts or opinions on a certain subject. Some people just enjoy to write, and others use poetry to express themselves, and their opinions with whoever chooses to read it.

Killer Lottery

"The Lottery." If you know nothing about this short story, and you hear that title, you'll think the complete opposite of what it is really about. This story is filled with irony from the start til the end. Especially when Old Man Warner said "seventy-seventh year i been in the lottery, seventy-seventh time." That statement just made me wonder why all of them would sit around for seventy-seven of these lotteries, and not try and stop them? The thought of that just kills me. These people didn't even think twice about putting their families up to possibly be killed, that just blows my mind.

There's nothing like the father's love

In "The Parable of the Prodigal Son," there is a father and two sons. The younger of the sons decides that he wants to take his share of their money and take a long journey. On the journey he blows all of his savings and ends up feeding and sleeping pigs because he was so careless with his money. Then he decides to return to his fathers house and ask for forgiveness. His father welcomes him home without question, and even decides to have a huge feast to celebrate his arrival back home. After seeing that his father let his younger brother come back home after what he did, the older brother becomes infuriated. While he never left the farm, his brother left for a long time and blew all of his savings, yet his father still wants to have a celebration feast? In this story the younger brother represents the every-day sinner, the older brother represents the pharisees, and the father represents God.

"The Shawl"

After reading Cynthia Ozick's "The Shawl," I just sat and thought about how disturbing this short story, and also the holocaust as a whole actually was. This story made the experience of being in a concentration camp very graphic, and showed decisions that the victims had to make daily. Also, i thought Ozick did a great job of using the shawl to symbolize safety. At the end of the story when Rosa had the choice between going to get the shawl first or saving Magna, she chose the shawl, knowing that Magna would be killed if it weren't for the shawl.

A Midsummer Nights Dream

After reading A Midsummer Night's Dream,  i find it very ironic that Theseus and Hippolyta would ever even think about getting married. He acts like she isn't even there half of the movie. Also, at the end of the movie, when Hermia and Lysander are watching a play and laughing at it, even though they have a bunch of similarities.
